CBC is pausing production on Northland Tales, a satirical Indigenous comedy series co-produced with the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, citing concerns the show could “negatively impact” its news brand.

The show — described as an unscripted half-hour comedy where an Indigenous activist trio uses pranks as social commentary, in the vein of Borat — has not yet aired a single episode.

The pause comes after Frances Widdowson and Lindsay Shepherd, both prominent critics of mainstream residential school narratives, claimed they were lured into prank interviews under false pretenses.
